The Coromandel Peninsular has long been a quintessential holiday destination. With beautiful blue waters, white sand, rugged volcanic rocks, tropical green forests and easy going locals, it is impossible not to relax and if it wasn’t for our other amazing destinations, we would never leave. Sea kayaking trips start at Whangapoua (2 hours from Auckland), and wind their way up to Sandy Bay at the tip of the Peninsular. On the way we visit stunning spots only accessible by sea. Of all our trips, this is the most luxurious. With good food, fresh fish, great places to stay, and your choice of so many activities including kayaking and fishing, this is a special trip to experience. This adventure has featured in the ‘United Travel Getaway’ television programme.

Brief Itinerary for the 3 day / 3 night Luxury Adventure

Night prior to start
We meet you in the Coromandel region and take you to Whangapoua Beach. The first night is spent in a beach-front Bach with an evening meal of great Kiwi cuisine on the outside deck overlooking the tranquil surrounding. Words can not describe the beauty.
Day 1
Hmmm … Breakfast! Then … we get organised and start our journey. Two hours of paddling getting used to the new environment before lunch on a secluded bay, where we can spend time fishing, swimming and snorkelling. After the lunch break, we carry on for another 2 hours, arriving at our destination for the night, Waikawau Bay. Tonight we camp in a beautifully prepared campsite where all you need to do is fall into your tents. Room (or should we say tent) service of wine and nibbles is standard.

Night 2
After an afternoon of swimming, fishing, snorkeling, or sleeping we relax and enjoy a beautiful meal of freshly caught fish and seafood, and another tasty New Zealand wine.

Day 2
Cooked breakfast and off by 10am. We paddle for approx 3 hours, north of Waikawau Bay to Sandy Bay. On the way we stop for fishing, snorkelling, and relaxing (again). Lunch is at a remote cove on the coastline that is only accessible by sea. By mid-afternoon, we arrive at Sandy Bay.

Night 3
Our beautiful beach-front Bach at Sandy Bay, is a delightful spot to enjoy the sunset and recount the fishing stories.

Day 3
Breakfast and off by 10am’sh. We take a final paddle up and around the coast to enjoy the remote solitude and by 1pm, we are back at Sandy Bay for a shower. The mini-van then takes us back to Whangapoua by 4pm.

Note: A “kiwi Bach” is a dwelling designed for holiday use and can be either a basic dwelling or something quite luxurious. Adrift has chosen Bach’s that are situated in the most pristine positions, either on the beach-front or with a magnificent view.
