COVID-19 UPDATE and FAQS

Covid-19 health and safety 

All vehicles, equipment, and the Adrift shop is cleaned and disinfected after each tour. All Adrift staff and clients will ensure they take appropriate steps to minimise chances of spreading any virus, including regular washing of hands and the use of face masks when appropriate and required . All Clients are to supply their own PPE equipment including face masks and hand sanitiser. Social distancing will be 2 meters apart where appropriate on Mountain and 1 meter apart inside the Adrift shop. If closer contact is required then PPE will be used. If you have cold or flu like symptoms on your booking date, don’t worry you’re welcome to postpone your booking  anytime up until 30 April 2021.

When can I go? This trip operates on demand. Pick a day and we will schedule it in.

Do you have minimum numbers? Yes, trips operate on a minimum of 2 persons.

How do I know if the trip is cancelled? If you have any concerns about the weather, please speak to Adrift directly. Obtaining advice from other parties can lead to incorrect information about your trip.

Parking: Plenty of street parking with no change or time restrictions

Can I get return transfers from Whakapapa Village, Turangi, Taupo or Ohakune? Yes you can. These locations attract an additional service and cost. When booking your trip, select your pick-up location. Minimum numbers apply. Telephone Adrift the day prior for exact pick-up times.

What do I need? Check out the gear list on each tours page.

What if I don’t have the proper gear? Adrift has an extensive range of clothing and footwear for those without their own. On the morning of the trip, we check your gear and can fit you with whatever you may need.

Outdoor experience? No experience is required for the hike.

What if I’m a fast/slow walker? Your guide (or guides) will manage the different walking speeds of the group. If you are extremely fast or slow, then a privately guided trip could be an excellent option.

Is it suitable for children? For children under 12 years of age, a privately guided trip is recommended. Alpine conditions are not suitable for babies and toddlers.

Are there toilets on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing? Yes. The longest period without toilets is about 3-4 hours in the middle of the hike.
