Have a question? Feel free to contact our friendly staff for more information on our exclusive trips.

Full day trips include:

  • Tongariro Alpine Crossing – Known as one of the best one-day hikes in the world and this is our most popular hike. The 21.4 km track leads up to the saddle between Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro, before descending past Red Crater, the Emerald Lakes, the new Te Maari crater and down to Ketetahi. The landscape is peppered with craters that have been active at different periods. The last eruption on Mt Tongariro was 2012. The colours and textures on this walk are incredible. Sunrise trips are also available.
  • Mt Ruapehu Crater Lake – Mt. Ruapehu is the highest (2797m) of the three active volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park. It is also the most active! Mt. Ruapehu’s last eruption was in 2007. Enjoy your packed lunch on top of the North Island highest volcano from where you can gaze down into the geothermal waters of the Crater Lake. There is no formed track and we’ll guide you up the safest route. The hike begins at the Whakapapa Ski area on Mt. Ruapehu. If the chairlifts are operating, you can choose to take a lift up to the Knoll Ridge Cafe (cost is additional), From here, there is still a good hike up to the Crater Lake.
  • Mt Ngauruhoe – For those that like a challenge. The near perfect volcanic cone of Mt. Ngauruhoe entices many visitors and Lord of the Ring fans. Mt Ngauruhoe is 2287m high and last erupted in 1975. On Mt Ngauruhoe there is no track and the terrain is loose scoria. Parts of the hike are reasonably steep – up to 33°. Some sections can feel exposed dependant on the weather. The trip takes you along the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track, up the Mangatepopo Valley to the saddle between Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro. This may take up to 2 hours. Your guide will then take you on the best route on the day to hike up Mt Ngauruhoe.

Short Walks:

Pick one or more options or let us choose the best option for you. Walking times are return and may vary for each person.

Multi-day tours:

  • 3-day Northern Circuit – The Tongariro Northern Circuit is part of the Department of Conservation Great-Walks network. The Northern Circuit showcases the best of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, while exploring additional explosion craters, lava flows, and volcanic wilderness. Highlights of the track also include the Tama Lakes, Taranaki Falls and the Rangipo and Oturere deserts. The hike commences at either Whakapapa Village or at the trail head of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and circumnavigates the central volcano, Mt Ngauruhoe. The route we take is about 37kms. Over-night accommodation is usually camping. Shared hut accommodaiton may be available with advanced bookings. You’ll need to bring your personal clothing and toiletries, sleeping bag and backpack. Adrift will provide everything else. Sleeping bags and backpacks are available for hire

The Whanganui River:

  • 1-day Canoe: Cherry Grove to Ohinepane – In one day experience a fantastic section of a Great Walk by canoe. The Whanganui National Park is rugged terrain covered in lush native forest and the Whanganui River flows through the heart of it. Our guides will offer anecdotes but equally there are times where we will leave you to absorb the tranquility and solitude. Paddling downstream, you will travel through bush-clad hills, observe waterfalls, see some classic kiwi farmland, and experience the thrill of paddling through grade 1 and 2 rapids.
  • 3-day Canoe: Whakahoro to Pipiriki – This is the most popular section to canoe. From Whakahoro the only access out is by way of the river. It is this remoteness and the forest filtered fresh-air that makes this trip a truly rejuvenating holiday. The Canadian canoes used on this river are well suited for the water, with gentle rapids and stretches of still water in the beautiful gorges. The canoes also hold plenty of gear. Bring your luxuries on these trips!
The Whanganui River is rich with Maori and European history. The greatest of which is the famous Bridge to Nowhere and at night you may even hear a Kiwi calling while you relax under the stars. Accommodation is usually camping. Shared hut accommodation may be available with advantaged bookings. You’ll need to bring personal clothing, toiletries and a sleeping bag. Adrift will provide everything else. Sleeping bags are available for hire.

Our exclusive guided trips provide you with a highly personal, informative and friendly experience that you will never forget. Our guides are well-informed and their experience keeps you safe. We assess the weather and track conditions, the timing for your personalised transport, and other little details that will maximise your enjoyment. We can also avoid weather-exposed sections or crowded areas on your request.
