HALF DAY VOLCANIC EXPLORER GUIDED WALK
If time is limited and you are unable to spend the whole day walking the Tongariro Crossing, then the 4-hour Half Day Volcanic Explorer Guided Walk is for you. Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Tongariro National Park with this half-day tour.
When possible, we will start on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track and head up to Soda Springs before returning to the start. At Soda Springs we give you the option to upgrade to the full day walk and join in with the full day guided party to complete the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
If the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk is not suitable on the day, we have a menu of smaller walks we can enjoy. We will talk and show you all things relevant to Tongariro and New Zealand including recent and past eruptions, geology, flora and fauna discovery, and settlement of NZ.
These are the most popular Tongariro sites we choose from and include in the 4 hours: Lake Rotopounamu, Taranaki Falls, Silica Rapids, Soda Springs, Pukeonake, Whakapapanui River, Tawhai falls, Meads Wall.
Guide/s, transport between the Adrift Tongariro base and the activity, all-mountain equipment including helmet, crampons and ice axes if required for winter conditions.
Adrift have available for hire personal equipment, footwear, and clothing to supplement that which you don’t have and need. Please see the “What to bring” tab for a full list of gear available for hire and pricing.
Whilst on this tour and in reaching Soda Springs, you can decide to upgrade to a full-day tour at an additional cost of $50pp. You must have lunch and adequate water to upgrade.
Tour starts and finishes at the Adrift Tongariro Base 53 Carroll St, National Park Village.

We endeavor to remove the risk of clients not having adequate clothing and equipment for the conditions. To achieve this we request clients to meet at the Adrift Tongariro base to improve both safety and service as this is outfitted with all equipment and clothing needs for the conditions of the day.
Meeting times during October may change depending on track conditions and snow levels on track. It is essential that you call Adrift Tongariro between 10:00am – 5:00pm the day prior to confirm tour departure time. +64 7892 2751.
Morning of the tour
Meet the team at the Adrift base the morning of the tour where our guides will check everyone in, go over the day’s trip conditions and assess and provide the required equipment, and additional clothing and boots if needed.
Once we meet you, you are under our guidance so you can then relax and enjoy the journey with Adrift.

Adrift Tongariro has available for hire personal equipment footwear and clothing to supplement that which you don’t have and need including boots, socks, thermal longs, fleece longs, waterproof pants, thermal tops, fleece tops, waterproof tops, warm gloves, warm hats, sun hats, sunglasses, backpacks, walking poles and sleeping bags and liners.

Minimum 2 people. Minimum 2 nights stay with Alpine Chalets. Midweek is classed as Sunday to Thursday. Accommodation is subject to availability. ALPINE CHALET ACCOMMODATION 2 NIGHTS
The Alpine Chalets offer a comfortable and affordable stay with outstanding panoramic views of the Tongariro National Park.
The Alpine Chalets are located amongst mature native trees and established gardens. There are 12 fully self-contained, warm, and comfortable units that face the Tongariro National Park. Each unit has a kitchen and ensuite bathroom for your convenience. All have spectacular views of Mt Ngaruahoe (Mt Doom), Mt Tongariro and Mt Ruapehu.
