Winter meeting time: 07:00am 1 May – 30 September

Outdoor experience? No experience is required for the hike. Your guide will also assist you with your crampons and ice-axe and show you how to use these items safely.
What are crampons? A crampon is a traction device that is attached to footwear to improve mobility on snow and ice.
What is an ice axe? It is a balance and safety tool that is used when walking up or descending steep slopes. It is also a self-arrest tool for stopping a slide.
Fitness level: A reasonably good level of fitness is required. We will walk at a moderate pace. Because of the limited daylight hours during the winter months, we need to reach certain points by certain times in order to finish before dark. If you are concerned about your fitness please let your guide know before commencing the walk, as there are options we can discuss with you.
What if I’m a fast/slow walker? Your guide (or guides) will manage the different walking speeds of the group. Usually the slowest walker sets the pace but where and when possible we will try and take faster walkers on extended small side trips. If you are extremely fast or slow, then a privately guided trip could be an excellent option.
Is it suitable for children? For children under 12 years of age, a privately guided trip is recommended. Alpine conditions are not suitable for babies and toddlers.
Can I have a private guide? Absolutely. Click here to check out our private trips.
What do I need? Check out the gear list at the bottom of this page.
What if I don’t have the proper gear for the cold? Adrift has an extensive range of clothing and footwear for those without their own gear. On the morning of the trip, we check your gear and can fit you with whatever you may need. Hire gear prices range from $5, $10 to $20 per item.
Are there toilets? Yes. The longest period without toilets is about 3-4 hours in the middle of the hike.
Do you have minimum numbers? Yes we do. Trips operate on a minimum of 4 persons.
I’m a solo traveller. Is this ok? If you are traveling alone please don’t hesitate to book. We generally meet our minimum numbers, especially on good weather days.
How do I know if the trip is cancelled? If you have any concerns about the weather, please speak to Adrift directly. Obtaining advice from other parties can lead to incorrect information about your trip.
